THE STATUES
A fascinating journey back in time to Pompei, 79 A.D. the year of its destruction.
An exciting show with living statues brought to life by director Mihai Malaimare. Through these statues, the audience can communicate beyond language and time with a world, 2000 years apart. The show hopes to recreate scenes from the day to day life in the lost city of Pompei, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. On a beautiful musical background, the frozen statues each wait their time to come to life. They move in a rhythm coming from another world. Not a word is said, they send their message, their most inner feelings through gestures and face expressions. It is in this manner that they try to compose distinctive scenes from the life of a roman city, speaking about gladiators cruelty, womens delicacy, the struggle of a poet trying to come to terms with the muse, the greatness of Caesar the roman emperor. After their brief moments of living, each one of the grey statues goes back to its initial position as if time froze in that second when Vesuvius erupted.
Neither natural disaster nor any earthquake shaking the Roman Empire could ever destroy everything. Rome is above the fate of its individuals and the statues state that even though The Roman Empire is no more, the spirit of its culture still breathes in our times.
