Elena Ambrosiadou is one of the world's most successful hedge fund managers. She is the CEO of IKOS which commenced trading in London in 1993 as one of the first hedge funds in Europe.

IKOS conducts high frequency trading and trades all major asset classes. The company currently employs 15 PhDs and firmly believes that success in the high frequency space requires "a combination of science, technology and business skills, a capital investment in trading infrastructure and a dedication to the scientific method."

Ms. Ambrosiadou, a trained chemical engineer once responsible for running chemical factories and production processes, shares fascinating insights about risk management, how to manage the evolutionary process in a firm, and what it takes for a hedge fund to succeed in the long term.

  • I object to Leoni1. There are no simple strategies in this type of trading - you are competing with the best of the best. Retail investors may try to invest using very very simple strategies, but not the professional market participants. They have millions of program code lines that run their models. This is far from "simple".

  • The OTC FX market is the biggest in the world, trading volumes in the trillions daily. 100% alpha strategies exist that correlate to nothing, and they are simple to understand and execute requiring not even one line or letter of code. Just a lot of brain cells. Someday far in the future HFT may get a grip on the FX market.

  • Boring....at the end of the day...the best traders keep it very very simple...good sales pitch..but she over complicates what are probably very very simple strategies

  • great interview, thanks

  • what an interesting background to end up in the hf space....
