Kai's Story - Pt. 1, Child Abuse Victim & Foster Care Survivor Speaks

1st of two parts of powerful remarks made by Kai A., 26. Abused by her biological mother, placed into foster care by the State of Texas, in and out of 49 different foster care placements, separated from her four younger siblings, and suicidal until landing at the Nelson's Children Center in Denton, TX, a residential treatment center owned and operated by Lutheran Social Services of the South. In a 15 minute speech addressing donors and volunteers, Kai provides her story including how the care she received at the Nelson Center turned her life around.

I'm going to try and make this video more viral because it reveals a lot that isn't entirely spoken about or understood in the U.S., I think. Most people hear Foster Care is bad and the system doesn't work but the details is what makes it more realistic and I think people need to be introduced to the seriousness of mental torture that one can and usually does go through. Thanks for speaking, Kai, it is going to do more than you may have imagined.

Thank you so much! I can't believe it has almost been a year since I was blessed enough to speak out swiftly of my story! It is amazing what this year has held for all involved.
