-SHELBY CO- When Dr. John Hard left his home to drive to the Shelby County airport; he did not know he would be treated to a ride in a B-17 like the one he flew in WW II. Arriving early, he witnessed the downwind, final and touch down of the large bomber named after "Liberty Bell" that flew 64 missions during the war.
This Flying Fortress is only one of 14 B-17s that still fly today out of 12,732 originally built by Boeing. As part of the Liberty Foundation's 2011 Salute to Veterans tour, the B-17 is available for rides on Sunday, March 13, 10:00am-5:00pm at the Shelby County Airport- EET. Joining the B-17 will be the rare Curtiss P-40E Warhawk fighter also available for rides. Se more at www.AlabamaAviator.com
i saw this beautiful airplane at shelby county while it was there. it's chilling to see a plane crashed and burned in a field on tv i'd taken pictures of just a few weeks before.

this is beautiful, and why aviation is my passion. you meet wonderful people along the way, and I have so many stories to tell of people like this. Unrelated but rest in peace Mr. Kermit Mangum, a fine man at the age of ninety. Quite the aviator and a fine man
