the priests=close minded over-religious hotheads!their country and its people were in the edge of ruin, the Sultan's army was at their gates and all they cared about was that Vlad allied with the roman-Catholics to get some help/support from them and for this they excommunicated him (supposedly ''condemning'' his ''immortal'' soul to ''eternal unrest/limbo'' between heaven and hell or some other bullcrap like that) ...this movie depicts the idiocy/blindness of religious fanaticism very well
