  • I haven't heard of any 'accidents' with methane and oxygen in a fizzy drink bottle not greater than 500cm3. (There have been mishaps with hydrogen/oxygen mixes, also with propane/oxygen)

  • It is the 'correct' mixture for the demo. That is what non-stoichiometric means

  • Assuming from the accents this took place in the UK and assuming from the location it was in a school.

    If only we in the USA could perform such science experiments in out schools...

  • Public school teachers tend to not want to lose their jobs since we want to "protect the children." Even controlled experiments with a miniscule amount of risk are discouraged.
