Challenging us with stunning images, Aaron Huey relates the fight for survival on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Aaron began photographing on Pine Ridge Reservation as part of a story on poverty in America, but it has captured his passion for five years. A quintessential example of the failures of the reservation system, he and we cannot turn away from what we see at Pine Ridge.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I find it funny how an non-native can stand up to his own people and say this. When we who are Lakota, native or what ever, cant even stand up to ourselves and make our home and area a better place. I am an Oglala Lakota Native, My dad is full blood my mom is over 3/4 and i lived that life it speaks of. I am now a college student and work full time. what i learned is we must grasp the tools given and make it out, to someday go back with a degree and fix what can be fixed

Maybe we need to look at this as a sign of how we treat people and how eventually we will be treated. "Government" is not the solution it is the problem. Men of their word is something that many white men do not understand. It saddens me to see what the great nation became due to the history of our "country".

What does this guy want? Emancipate north and south dakota from USA and hand it over to these people as "Lakotah'? What these people need is extensive support from the government and cultural rehabilitation.

It is a difficult question.
As a white person that works with Aboriginal communities, I ask myself the same question every day.
But in the end, the alternative is not helping. I hope we can all stand together against this, so that one day more than just the white voices get heard.
