Kelly Dougherty, Executive Director of Iraq Veterans Against the War, spoke on IVAW's strategy to end the war against Iraq at Socialism 2007: Socialism for the 21st Century in Chicago, IL on June 16, 2007.

Dougherty was deployed to Iraq in March 2003 in a military police unit until February 2004. She was a co-founder of IVAW in 2004.

According to the UCMJ soldiers is not supposed to obey unlawful orders. All orders with regard to the war in Iraq are unlawful since the President have violated certain treaties which are the equivalent of the law of the land.

Out of a terrible war that is hurting us all, devastating Iraq and contributing to the worsening conditions here in the US, comes a bit of good. The humane and intelligent response of those US veterans like Kelly Dougherty and the rest of IVAW, can give us hope. Not only awakening to all that is wrong with this war, they are looking at where this madness came from and what needs to be done to start a truly democratic and humane alternative. Thanks from an old vet.
