So my truck got hit by an asshat with no insurance. Luckily, he was carrying a load of copper pipes, copper wire, buckets of brass valves, and a stainless steel sink from a restaurant. Unluckily, given the situation, he didn't want me recording it.

The second half of the video is the outdoor wood furnace's blower. My new one. I didn't get much fabrication done today because the blower was hell to clean/rebuild.

  • From all the years of home wood heating, I can tell you that the claims of 12 to 20 hours between charging the fire box with fresh wood is exaggerations. Unless it has catalyst and holds "200 plus" pounds of wood

or "much more" and is 60 feet from your house.

I get low smoke, no creosote by charging less than 50 pounds of wood and open air draft. Feed a few times during the day and cut down air only at night. Let air fully draft during the day to keep it hot and creosote free.

  • @Tankdriver100 I don't worry about the wood. I never calculated that because I work from home and have 20-25 cords of maple for the year. I have a tree company that'll be dropping that off regularly. Kijiji is your friend ;)

  • That'll buff right out.... Nice haul.

2nd 1/2---- HOLLY!! That blower will bulge your walls out......LOL

I see consecutive modifications coming up before you get that pulling all the available heat off of that big honkin furnace. From the feed door back, my giant wood burner is completely in closed in sheet metal & the blower pressurizes the house.

I don't see any way, fire can breach that wood burner. It'll be safe to collect all the radiant heat.

Well I mean, don't get it glowing..

  • @Tankdriver100 I know it isn't a bad dent. It just sucks because that truck is brand new, the newest I've ever had, fully paid off now, and I am *almost* ready to start lifting it. Its getting 44" tires, dana 60s solid axle swap, IFS will be removed, custom tubular frame with 4 link suspension, ram air hood, euro projector lights all blacked out... I was THIS close to being able to paint it... now I have to do body work before anything else.

  • @Tankdriver100 I'm heavily considering what you're saying. It makes a lot of sense. However, I lost a house to fire in Oct 08 & Sept 09. One was a faulty chimney that had been inspected, the other was hydro's new smart meter blowing up. I swore I would never heat with wood... then I discovered the outdoor furnace. I'm open to it because I get $700/month heating bills from hydro... BUT, I'm still super paranoid. You're boosting my confidence in it being unbreachable though =)

  • didn't you worry that the copper the guy gave you was stolen?

  • @ivecocamper I did. However, the materials were all used. Its not like he had brand new rolls of wire. The other thing is, this happened in broad daylight lesss than 3KMs from a police station, in a Tim Hortons parking lot. I trusted that he was dumb enough to drive without insurance... but not dumb enough to drive around with stolen materials in a much more obvious situation.

  • @frigginwidowmaker wait and bring it in when its up a little

  • @frigginwidowmaker well it sounds like you did pretty good out of it! :)

  • @frigginwidowmaker Yea man, neither time was it the burners fault. Chimney fires....

Hmmmm? Smoldering fire from the previous occupant and in your burner is the cause.

AND hundreds of pounds of wood in a fire box for hours on ends is either smoldering or fast blazing. It's chimney fire or red hot glowing stove sets your house on fire.

So, load several times a day with smaller hot fires.

    Safe.......
