In my company we have a security card system that gives us access to everything including elevator access after hours. we have a lot a pin pads on our floor and can use them to type in our access code instead of using the card. The building how ever does not have the pin pad and you must have your card on you or else you are taking the stairs and if you pick the wrong side of the building to go up..... guess what the door at the 7th floor only has a reader no PIN pad. but the other stairs do.. great just what I wanted more exercise.

This happened to me as you can imagine and it was frustrating to think it was my fault cause I never carry my card.....

I always though it would be neat if RIM embedded RFID tags in their phones that could be used with security systems. Most security card systems work on a simple principal of 2 things. The Frequency must match your system and you need to know the code off the card. If some how we could standardize these security systems to use one RFID frequency ... they could start to put these in their phones and people could use them insted of security cards.

I don't know if you are like me but my BlackBerry is always with me (at least at work) and this was a perfect solution

  • why couldn't you just stick your card inside it? i think the blackberry is big enough to fit

  • @DRJ510 - There is not even close to enough room. RIM designed these so maybe a small space is there but not enough for a full card. Not to mention the card are to wide believe me if I could have fit the card in I would have. Or even a modified case so the card slides in instead of opening my security card.

  • hey man, saw your video and its a great idea, in the past 24hrs 4 of my friends and myself have done this........ my super saw me get into the building this morning with my berry and i got a really weird look from her, lol Great idea man keep up the good work :)

  • Glad to hear! Im looking at the new Bold 9700 now and wondering if I can still do this! I dont know if I want to give up my RFID chip.

  • Any ideas for standard cards (tap-n-go type of card) for my BlackBeautyBold? :D

Awesome ideas, nice GPS mount too. Keep them coming!

  • What do you mean by a tap and go card? The card I used I would think is a tap and go card? Can you give a link for an example?
