Having a hole or tear in a screen defeats the purpose, so you'll want to replace the screen as fast as possible. What kind of materials you need for the replacement depends on several factors. In this video, we'll walk you through the list of materials that are available so that you can continue to keep bugs out while letting fresh air in.

Even the smallest hole or tear in a door or window screen can let in insects and other critters, defeating the purpose of having a screen in the first place. When it's torn, it's time for a replacement.

The only choice you need to make is between aluminum screening and fiberglass screening. Aluminum is a little more durable than fiberglass and is more in keeping with the style of the home. Fiberglass has the advantage of not denting when hit or pushed. Either way, you'll need enough screen to cover your door or window frame with a few inches of overhang on all sides. Then you'll need some screen retainer spline, a utility knife and a spline rolling tool.

If your corners are broken you'll also need plastic finishing corners. There are several types and sizes of these. For an exact match, bring them into your local Westlake Hardware to match them exactly. Or you can bring your door and window frames in, and we'll do the project for you. We also install pet proof screening that's resistant to tears and damage.

Whether you do it yourself or have us do it, we're always here to help.
