@kennyfrontosa Clough won 10 trophies in his career, but only 2 of them without Taylor. Why do people rave on about Clough, but they seem to forget that he was virtually lost without Taylor.

It don't matter if Clough could have would have with England.
The Fundamental problem with England and the other home nation teams is that we have 11 prima donas that only want to shine for themselves & endorsements and forget about Teamplay or national pride!
Moreover, the culture of WAGS and the media are whispering poison into the ears of our International Players.
John Terry is an example!

Its not just the FA that get it wrong. When Stokoe left Sunderland, Cloughie made it clear he wanted the job only for them to give it to Jimmy Adamson. Cloughie went to Forest and the rests history.
Mind you the SAFC surpassed themselves a decade earlier when they allowed him to leave his coaching job at the club to go and manage Hartlepool. He went on to manage Derby and again the rest is history.

I'm a Scotsman, and it pains me to agree.

was the mentality of the FA , i think Clough would have walked into that job now; the mentality of the FA has changed, it had too, 40 years of failure has made it change

Come on kopiteman none of those guys were 'average' .
Your list includes guys plucked from obscurity, not plodders 'transformed' into world beaters. It's as daft as claiming Bill Shankly turned Kevin Keegan into a great player - Shankly gave him a platform, but the ability was already there, just like the guys you mention.
As Shankly once said
"Great players are born, not made and anyone who tries to tell you they can make a player great are very stupid". (Something like that anyway).

@helltopo .. sorry just wanted to put you right, haven't been reading all the comments, but have to say as well as buying class, without question he turned average into quality i.e, in no perticular order, john robertson (40 a day), stuart pearce (non-league apprentice electrition) roy keane (unknown irishman), mcgovern, ohare etc

You're right there mate.
But to get the job you have to wear a suit & tie. Cloughie turned up for the interview in a track suit.
Graham Taylor wore a suit and tie & got the job. Thats the mentality of the FA

kenny, of course Clough & Taylor transformed clubs for the better, there is no denying that, but you have to drop this comic book fantasy that he transformed average players into greats. Clough spent a lot of time moaning about his various boards, but they provided the cash which was vital for his success. Great managers need great players & Taylor especially was great at spotting them and signing them.
I wish Brian was here now to criticise some of the dickheads of football today, some footballers's (not naming any) need a right good kicking up the arse, also i just seen 'The Damned United' Film, anybody who's a fan of Clough and his work so see it no doubt.

England would have definately have won a tournament if ol' big head was in charge. Narrow minded F.A wuckfits. I still cant believe Cloughy's playing career! 274 appearances 251 goals! Speaks for itself. Football misses characters like Brian Clough.
