Next door 'democracies' more dangerous for Israel than deposed dictatorships?

With Israel increasingly isolated by the international community over its expansion policy - the Arab Spring means the country is becoming surrounded by potentially hostile governments. Which makes some Israelis say the deposed dictatorships were a safer bet for the country than the new democracies near its borders. RT's Paula Slier reports.

Not clear enough for you apparently. The recent UN membership application is an implicit acceptance of Israel as well. The borders declared in it are those from UN res 242.

You forget to mention that this was not a letter of recognition of the state of Israel but rather a negotiating party which was responded to by Rabin in a letter recognizing the PLO as a representative of the Palestinians - Arafat took ill soon after this letter ( surprise surprise ) and died shortly afterwards.

Hamas has never recognized Israel on any level, but has offered to do so in exchange for full withdrawal from the occupied territories as recent as 2011. A quick search will yield a whole slew of media reports on this statement.

Again these things are of little consequence to Israel, since they have never intended to withdraw from any of the territory they acquired by war.

They have actually given recognition to Israel as a sovereign state, but that wasn't enough Netanyahu, because they refuse to give recognition as a "Jewish state". How can you expect them to give that recognition, when it would be surrendering the right of return for Palestinian refugees from what is today Israel? Even Hamas has offered recognition in exchange for withdrawal from the occupied territories.
