  • I like most of the things you create and I think I understand your style. And here is my question. According to my experience only 2 from ten people would buy a mug like yours if it is put together with Chinese modern smooth looking ones. I like when the hand, brush and heat take part in a process so i can see it watching a thing-seems the people around me do not. Obviously it is a lack of experience. What is percentage at your place?

  • @oteplyakov The same. Generally people choose machine made over hand made. However, I am discovering that people often appreciate hand made pottery more when it is explained to them. I know many people who choose to drink from hand thrown cups because they prefer the way they feel.

There is something comforting in using an object which you know has had time and care put into it's production.

  • is this Cone 6?

  • @BenCMusician I apologise for my late reply. They were fired at 1120 C. I'm afraid you'll have to do the conversion I'm not very good at cones!

  • Nice sgraffito work. I think I tend to have the greatest admiration for a pot when it's at the bisque state. It's rare that I can get glaze results to live up to my high expectations.

  • It seems to be the nature of pottery. Often pots that I don't like bisqued turn out to be the surprising hit when glazed.

At the moment I am searching for a simple style range which works. I posted a couple of pics on my blog today of an interesting vase I have been working on just using a new oxide mix, which, unfired I like right now. I'll post a video when it has been fired.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Mark.

  • Sorry to say it's VERY hard on your elements to attempt a salt glaze. If you've done traditional salt glaze you're familiar with the glaze build-up on all kiln parts. This is a result of the salt volotizing, not from throwing the salt.

  • P.S. My name is Oleg

  • @brookfieldpottery haha, alright, thats about cone 8 I think, usually it's just a little more than double for F. Thanks!

  • I don't know what you consider success... because your failures are beautiful!
