  • God we've de-volved as a literary culture, the 'artists' of today could not conceive a lyric such as this if the ghost of James Joyce himself guided their pens.I stand in disbelief that this was once in top 40 rotation (and i was there) now it is the trite juvenile words of over-rated pretenders like beyonce, jay-z. little wayne, maroon 5 and whatever emotionally retarded cliches these fools are passing off as art.The folly of present day pop only makes this song stir the heart even more.

  • Recriminations fester and the past can never change

A woman's expectations run from both ends of the range

Once she walked with untamed lovers' face between her legs

Now he's cooled and stifled and it's she who has to beg..

  • This man is Deep!!!!!

  • I WILL never forget or stop listening to Pete for as long as I live !!

  • @TheFringefilms Well put. I was there too when great music by great artists still had a place in contemporary pop as well as maintaining the Rock vanguard. It's still remembered tho by countless millions who flock to this site to get their fix,(like you and I). All the crap music throughout the years has not endured 30+ years later like this music does and always will. Just be prepared for a new glut of tripe every 7 years or so that will be forgotten in 3 years. If that.

  • @howimetted - LOST reference?

  • @dirtymeansteve okay. moving right along.

  • @curtiscrush "Wrong" isn't the word I'd use. "Superficial," "contrived," "pandering," and "unoriginal" are much more accurate words to describe the current pop music culture.

  • @BognarRegis my god, thank you for saying that ! i love this music and i love the new stuff. it's hard to compare the two....it is not the same time. music continues to morph and change. neither one is WRONG, it is simply, different. pete townsend, back in the day, had his nay sayers and complainers. it is a vicious cycle. just enjoy the music that you like people. thanks.

  • @TheFringefilms Ironically, the "trite juvenile words" of which you speak are written by a bunch of forty something men and women and presented to these performers.

  • All the best cowboys have daddy issues. Thumbs up if you understood this.

  • The incense burned away and the stench began to rise........... Brilliant !
