Chromata were formed in 2006 by Eva and Fil Ieropoulos, who are sister and brother from the north of Greece. Eva has been composing music for children for years and Fil was always interested in micro-electronica, so the marriage of the two seemed inevitable in the form of child-like bitter-sweet electronic compositions. Their common love for Manos Hadjidakis led to the name Chromata [colours], but the name was soon considered appropriate beyond this reference, as the music was described by many people as strongly cinematic. The band has had a strong myspace presence, but has not had any official releases. This summer Chromata will be releasing two songs in a new vocal electronica compilation with Athenian label the sound of everything and an album release is hopefully happening late 2008 / early 2009.

Eva Ieropoulou has been composing music for children for over fifteen years. She has released two cds To Prasino Mouskari-o and Ta Pos Ke ta Yiati. Eva teaches music to children aged 3-6 at the conservatory she opened with her husband, composer Costas Bravakis, in Veria. She also writes fairytales and plays and she has three forthcoming book releases in the next year. Eva is a graduate of Linguistics and currently studies the cello with Ilona Velther. Fil Ieropoulos has been making electronic music for about ten years. After creating post-rock band Cloudcub and London-based electro-indie band Diskoboy, he embarked on Chromata, bridging some of his favourite influences. Fil also makes films and teaches video art in the UK. He has taken part in a few festivals of experimental film in the UK, Greece and Germany, recently showing work at Megaron Mousikis in Athens. He is currently doing a PhD on the idea of the Film Poem at the University College of the Creative Arts. You can view some of his work at
