Who thinks he leaned into this pitch??..the umpire didnt give him the base, because he says the the player leaned into the ball..(bases were loaded in the regional finals at Clearwater Central Catholic)
Actually, by rule the batter has to make an attempt to avoid being hit. I've been umping for 12 years and have called back batters numerous times for the exact same thing. And also if he was close enough to the plate the umpire could have called it a strike IF his elbow was in the strike zone.

The exact rule under NFHS is 7.3.4 - A Batter SHALL NOT "Permit a pitched ball to touch him.
Penalty: The batter remains at bat (pitch is a ball or strike) unless the pitch was strike three or ball four"

This isn't a good call at all, you don't have to make an effort to get out of the way of the pitch you just cannot lean in to the pitch.

@bagpiper2005 A batter does not have to make an attempt to get out of the way of a pitch if he is in the box.
