http://www.SmileOnSriLanka.org - Sponsor a child in Sri Lanka. This video gives an example of the living conditions for children that are being sponsored with educational scholarships through Smile On Sri Lanka.
Smile On Sri Lanka's mission is to make a lasting difference to the lives of local children and their families by providing funding and sponsorships for private tuition and further education.

We provide children from the less affluent backgrounds funding so they can get a better quality of education through the private class system. This ultimately will change the destiny of these children and their families forever. For these young people to have a chance at getting a decent job with prospects, they will need this extra education.

Please take a moment to watch the local Sunday School Head-teacher outline this at http://bit.ly/SmileOnSriLankaOverview1.

How It Works
When you decide to sponsor a child through Smile on Sri Lanka, the process is as follows:
1) You select a child that you would like to sponsor. Every child (and their family) is carefully selected by the principal of the sunday school and the heads of the local community, under the guidance of the Reverand Nandaloca, chief monk in the region

2) We ask for a yearly contribution of $180 USD ($15 per month). This is approx. SG$250 annually, about SG$21 a month) This amount will sponsor one child for a period of one year. The sponsor can then decide at the end of the year if they wish to renew and continue their commitment.

The sponsorship covers the costs for approximately 5-6 private classes per week. For ex-ample, 2 or 3 in English, 2 in Maths and 1 in Science. The fees add up to approximately $12 and we allow another $3 to cover the costs of additional books, materials and transportation.

3) We receive funds here into our Smile on Sri Lanka account and then we transfer monthly installments via a standing order to the sponsees account -- the exact amount of $15 (in Sri Lankan rupees) on the 1st of every month. This covers the tuition costs and continues for a period of 12 months. We invite donations up front to avoid monthly international bank charges that are usually $30 minimum each time.

4) Your details will be given to the administrator (the head of the Sunday School) who will help ensure that the child writes to you at least 3 times a year, enabling you to monitor and track their development and build up a relationship.

5) At the end of the year you will be given the option to sponsor the child for the following year.

Our Location
Smile On Sri Lanka focuses attention on the educational needs of children in the villages of Polduwa, Yattagalla & Hinitigalla, situated in the Unawatuna district of the Galle province in Southern Sri Lanka.

Some Benefits of Sponsorship
• Make a direct, tangible difference by sponsoring the education of your chosen, designated child, helping the future generation

• No international overhead, all team and administers working on a voluntary basis, in a transparent system, so your money goes exactly where it is needed

• You will receive a minimum of 3 letters every year from the child you sponsor, allowing you to see their progress and development

• Option to develop an international relationship with the child and their family. It is up to you if you want to communicate with them (they genuinely appreciate and value this). Some sponsors prefer just to provide the financial support whilst many enjoy getting to know the family and child through correspondence

• You can reduce the cost by splitting or sharing the sponsorship with a friend, family members, colleagues or class (see below)
