I had just purchased a Harry Chapin record at Tower Records downtown when I heard he'd died on the LIE. His songs are my meditations (yes, even "30k lbs. of Bananas"), and my kids heard "Cat's Cradle" as their bedtime song until they were in their teens. It was my promise to them not to act out the lyrics in real life. Harry, we love you still.

I saw Harry perform at the Greek Theatre in L.A. in about 1975, and it was the most fun I ever had at a concert. This song was a blast to partake in. The whole audience was involved, which is what seeing a live concert is all about. R.I.P Harry, we all miss you!!!!!!!

Harry was so special. Saw him at U of Western Ontario in about 77 and in a little theater in Banff, Alberta in 80. (I still have a cassette tape from the machine sitting on my buddy's lap during the Banff show.) My friend Rick came to Banff the next summer and when Harry's song came on the juke box he made some comment like 'too bad he died'. I didn't know what he meant. I hadn't heard. I was crushed. That's where I was: 'Bumpers' on Banff Avenue. F***.
