  • I am wondering if that leverage is true.... because he's holding the opposite tips of the bat that will give he much leverage actually. Just thinking about it, I am not sure.

  • @kzterminator - Actually it works almost like magic. Try this out with someone, even if they're not a training partner. Ask them to hold on to the bat as tight as possible and you'll see that it takes no effort at all to leverage it out of their hands. Keep your arm close to your body for better positioning.

Also, as discussed elsewhere for this video, timing is key as the bat will be headed toward you. Step back at the same time to go with their forward momentum.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • who attacks with a bat like that? Once again another unrealistic self defense technique

  • @legendwaitforitdiary - Really? You've never seen anyone attack with a bat like this? Sure looked "realistic" when I watched a group of 18th Streeters keep back hold back a few homies while their buddy got a stompin. Guess our "realities" are a few blocks away from one another, eh?

  • Sweet effective disarm very smooth. It helps also if you glow with his forward momentum a bit, kinda like you do in tai chi when someone pushes you. You dissipate some of the energy of this stirke by going with it and you can still employ this excellent disarm here. GOOD stuff.

  • @TheSubwaysurfer - You're absolutely right SWS. I could have demonstrated that better in this self defense video.

If anyone is reading these comments, SubwaySurfer's point is spot on. With this self defense weapon disarm technique, the attacker's forward momentum will be very strong because he's trying to push hard. Use that to your advantage and step back and to the side to help with the disarm and keep the attacker off balance.

Thanks for the great addition SWS!

  • Now you can start crushing melons with an impact weapon. Nice.

  • Excellent tip! Thanks for sharing.

  • You notice the moment that he gets ahold of the bat, he then turns the bat for a sideways swing. This is probably the worst thing he can do at this point. In the moment when he acquires the bat, he's at the low level of swing for the standard sledgehammer use case, with the left hand at the butt of the bat and the right hand about the middle of the bat. The opponent is in a perfect "decapitate me" position, so why not use the opportunity to cream him with the most powerful blow possible?

  • Gotta love all the couchpatatos in below comments saying this never happens, or it doesn't work. It does work and does happen, the only problem with this is you cant learn fighting from a video.it only comes on a mat or on the pavement, preferably in that order...

  • crushing melons wow that sounds horrible

  • @legendwaitforitdiary Dude you have absolutly no idea what you're talking about. I've personally seen this done before.

  • @cqctraining i think he meant it in a way as in this is helpful only in that situation if ur in a fight and the other person has the bat there gonna swing not push
