One thing that spoils the otherwise excellent interface of the Powershot S90 is the rear control dial. It turns too easily and the cluster of buttons inside and surrounding the dial are too easily pressed resulting in undesired changes, often not noticed until it's too late.
The solution - a small laser-engrave Delrin™ ring with an adhesive backing that surrounds the dial which eliminates unintentional dial rotation and button presses.
How it works: This simple device provides a raised surface that protects the control dial and buttons from unintentional activation without hampering their normal use. You can even hold the camera with your thumb directly over the dial without activating any buttons or the dial.
Attachment Instructions:
Clean the area where the ring will be attached with the included alcohol wipe and let dry (we recommend putting the wipe in a tissue to avoid over-wetting the camera). Then peel the backing from the ring and lower it into approximate position over the dial. Now you can nudge it into position - it's easiest to align the outside edge of the ring with the four outside buttons. When it looks right, just press it down. If the inside of the ring is too close to the dial, it may inhibit dial rotation too much. If you need to reposition the ring, just lift slowly on the edge and it will lift off and you can move it. (Lift slowly and gently - if the adhesive is damaged or displaced it could keep the dial from rotating freely).
Usage tips: Just use the dial and buttons as before. If you have very dry or calloused skin, you may have to use a different technique as shown in the movie (place thumb over entire dial and rotate). We think the default setting for the ring function works best (which assigns EV compensation to the control dial). To remove: just lift an edge with a fingernail and it will come off cleanly.*
*After application, the bond strength of the adhesive will increase over 2-3 days. After reaching 100% bond strength it may be difficult to remove the ring without damaging the adhesive layer. It will still peel cleanly from the camera, but if the adhesive is damaged or displaced it may affect the function of the control dial adversely. Let us know if you have a problem and we'll send a replacement.
