@WalterLiddy I don't hold positions as necessarily false because they are defended by fallacious arguments. I just can't reasonably justify that which I have only authoritative statements to go on.

@cerickNY There simply isn't time in a video like this for that. But you can look into it. Study after study has shown that immigration benefits and grows an economy. It's up to you if you want to research and confirm this for yourself. By all means doubt the argument from authority, but don't dismiss the possibility simply because it comes from authorities.

i fucking love immigration but i despise illegal immigration

Who is really complaining about immigration? LEGAL immigration!
The complaint is about ILLEGAL immigration. After all, the USA is an immigrant country, settled and developed by immigrants and as such, we have done well for more than 200 years. We know that legal immigration works. Legal immigrants become citizens. The complaint is that the citizens want the federal government to do its job: enforce the immigration laws.

Problem with the first rebuttal. It's presented as purely an argument from authority. I feel the need for some explanation of why economists come to that conclusion.

@nemo227 The argument would be even weaker against illegal immigrants. As you point out they can't become citizens, can't work legally etc. So they are not competing with citizens for legal jobs AT ALL. They can't apply for social assistance. They can't be a drain in any way. Each of these three myths is even more true when applied to that group. All immigration should be legal. That would eliminate whatever your issues are and as we see there's no net downside.
