Welcome

Dear reader,

The invasive treatment of patients with coronary artery disease in the Netherlands has a great development. Among others there are more hospitals to perform angioplasty. The idea of The Dutch Offsite revascularization Summit grew out of a need to organize at some medical centers to create a platform for transparency and quality. On this platform there is an opportunity to gain insight into the primary process along the whole spectrum of heart problems to the aftercare.

Offsite PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) centers, angioplasty centers without cardiac surgery on site. This type of care existed internationally for a longer time, as in the United States and elsewhere in Europe. Medical Centre Alkmaar in the Netherlands was the first center in 2002 that the authority of the professional association cardiology had to prove that in this way and safe care could be provided. The only reason to offsite centers in order to best care for heart attacks. Within the current political, economic and social climate have technical developments this way of providing good care possible. The PCI treatment in the Netherlands continues to license and therefore in principle easy to monitor. But it lies with the practitioners themselves and scientific professional association to ensure a good quality.

The participating centers - some of which each received more than 1000 operations per year, including Medical Center Alkmaar, Rotterdam Hospital Rotterdam, Rijnstate Hospital Arnhem, The Heart Center Gorinchem, Dordrecht and Invasive Heart Care Drenthe / Scheper Hospital - are convinced of the importance of the volume criterion. Therefore gives the total number of treatments of these centers a large possibility - through cooperation - scientific research and best clinical practices to share.

Due to the close cooperation of PCI centers with cardiac surgical units, there will be ample attention to integrated approach. We hope that the content of this program is interested a good impression of the design and practice of this form of care innovation in the Netherlands: professional care is closer to the patient. We also offer the opportunity to actively participate in an exciting afternoon.

The Conference Committee

Dr. Raymond Hautvast, cardiologist, Medical Centre Alkmaar
Dr Peter Danse, cardiologist, Rijnstate Hospital Arnhem
Dr. Peter Smits, cardiologist, Hospital Rotterdam, Rotterdam
Dr Gillian Jessurun, cardiologist, Scheper Hospital Emmen
