    Not because of Rick Perry, thats for damn sure. Really it can all boil down to Texas's biggest industry, energy. Energy companies have enjoyed huge success, not because of Rick Perry, but simply because of Texas's unique size and position in the United States. They have some of the largest concentrations of oil in the nation (lower 48), its a huge factor to adding jobs in the state. By the numbers: High school dropout rate, nearly 20%; most uninsured people in US; nearly 20% of Texans in poverty
