I notice that they seem to go on the ground beneath the feeders when its raining. Maybe the rain softens the seed or something. Someone did say to be about soaking the seeds for a day or two before putting out for the young. Getting expensive though cause I have about 15 to 20 goldfinches visiting the garden and then the siskins (which are nice to see) plus the usual scores of chaffinches. Its like steady on - theres a recession, Oh well at least all around my house sounds like an aviary.
This is a revelation to me,There are fruit trees,in the garden,s either side of our house. We hang seed ext,but i cannot recall, ever seeing Goldfinches on the ground.I am a keen observer of wild birds,Must be, reason that eludes me. Thank You wisfull.
