actually, tr, no, its main function was to detect soviet bombers making there way into north america. it was originally designed in the 1950s, then upgraded several times before being abandoned sometime in the late 80, or early 90s. new radars were put in place that were more powerful and could be operated remotely without on-site crews, saving money.
