Ruby the Pineapple GCC and Bode the Yellow-Sided GCC make some weird noises and body language. It is hard to see from this angle, but their tail feathers are sometimes fanned out too when they exhibit this behavior- kind of looks like they are strutting. They will kinda throw their heads from side to side, too. They do this when I first take them out of their cage and they also do it spontaneously.

  • @lostintravise I try to get my birds to do this! I must look and sound insane, but I will throw my head from side to side and make that high-pitched squeal, and it's usually hit or miss. They'll either sit there looking at me or they will start to do it too. I'm pretty sure this falls under the category of people who talk to their dogs like they understand them LOL!

  • @ everyone, thanks for the kind comments, and it's interesting how I have rarely read about birds exhibiting this specific behavior- usually it's your standard "when it's gonna bite, it does x, and when it wants to be picked up, it does y..." I did read that this may be some sort of courtship behavior. Also, my breeder seems to think that they do this when they are happy. When they engage in this behavior, it's like they are just "strutting." So I'll take it as a positive thing I guess :-)

  • beautiful bird

  • @217cmiller I think she may even be doing it in some of my vids on here....

  • my Pineapple does that all the time... I think its like a dominance stance, not really an aggressive gesture, just "this is my territory and don't forget it" kind of thing...
