Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35/FZ38 zoom test on the moon

Hello there:) I'm Eli I'd like to ask something if u don't mind.

I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ35 otical zoom 18X but i'd like to know where i can get the 40x digital zoom. do i have to buy it separately? cause it didn't came with the camera when i bought it,.

secondly, can i use this digital zoom with this camera ?

@avvv1 HI Eli! to answer your first question, digital zoom is a built in system function inside the camera, you just have to change some camera settings to be able to use digital zoom. to do that, go to [REC] menu and make sure [DIGITAL ZOOM] is set to [ON]. if you keep on rotating the zoom level towards 'tele' the camera will enter digital zoom once it has reached 18x optical zoom.

and yes you can use digital zoom with this camera.

@MrAdri217 long zoom range, YES! and the HD video quality is top class too. photo quality is definitely better than compact cameras, but get a dslr if you want more control over your pictures.

also you might want to play with the settings because u cant see any detail of the moon yet when i messed with the settings of mine i see alot of crater detail

@cleo2525 thanks, will try to play with the settings next time. and yeah i have a 3x telephoto lens for my fz38, but the image looks kinda distorted when i attach it to the camera.

With FZ38, i advice to use the Extra Zoom (EZ) feature.

Reduce the resolution to 3MP (near any resolution under 12MP, you see a little EZ logo).

And now you can zoom up to 35X without digital zoom loss.

I advice to never use digital zoom on any camera, this is always a crappy up sampling, not even bicubic.

Of course, it is not a real 35X zoom, but you don't need further cropping and don't loose quality due to digital zoom ;)

If you don't need so much zoom, use more resolution.
