I wish i can swing around like him...

you can also use morote waza (2 hand) as well. fake men cut, and then go for 2 handed kote is a typical use of morote-kote from jodan.
And jodan actually abandons all defence. The only thing that isn't open is the men, so to do jodan you must have good judge of distance, and enough ki to impose your seme onto them... which is a lot harder to do without a shinai there.

You must be very sure of your skills, if you're going to say you know better than a pro.

thank you for your explanation :) i searched some books for kendo techniques after my comment and with your help i understand the difference thnx again.

fxwfg is correct . jodan is definitely more offensive than chudan. jodan is generally executed with katate waza (one hand technique) that enables the jodan kendoka to a longer reach compared to the chudan kendoka. to use jodan one must have a sort of attitude of dominance toward their opponent. obviously there are disadvantages (open left kote ,open do and the throat is some what more open). don't worry, you don't sound stupid . it's a good question

this guard is called jodan no kamae, and the white kendoka uses chudan no kamae
-
can you tell me which technique is that? i mean the red corner using. looks very offensive but also white corner cant even reach his kote. sorry i'm kinda new to kendo please forgive me if i sound stupid.
I'd like to see you face Kenji Shodai and see how well you could defend against him =]

Come on, give me a break ... the guy in chudan is Mori-san, a veteran who is a constant force in the All Japan's since many many years ...
