I've had a lot of people ask what exactly is this "Foursquare" thing and why I use this service. This video will explain all of those questions including what the service is about.

You forgot to say that it is handy to scan for places to go based near your location. You can also leave reviews to help fellow foursquarers evaluate what the venue is like. Stalking in general is not an option btw as you can delete friends from your account and they will not be able to know where you are unless they put in a lot of time and effort scanning recent check ins at multiple venues.
