A look behind the Wellington Gateway, a remarkable environmental sculpture created by project artist Frances (Fran) Ferguson and located on the Mitchell Highway near Wellington, New South Wales, Australia.
First conceived in 1993 and officially opening in 1996, this innovative and pioneering rural landmark is reminiscent in some ways of the once equally controversial work of Antoni Gaudi - but is nonetheless an entirely original and challenging creation in its own right. Indifference is impossible upon a visit and the mood of the artwork changes dramatically with the shifting light each day.
A project of Arts Outwest and the Wellington City Council with valuable local support from the Orana Aboriginal Corporation and State & Federal Governments.
In tribute to the stunning talents and wonderful generosity of spirit of Artist Fran Ferguson (1962 - 2003).
