"The Japanese had no choice. The Americans had cut off their oil supply and without it they would have lasted only 15 months."

Bullshit they do have a choice. They could have invaded the Dutch East Indies, one of the richest oil and rubber in the southern Pacific region, the US would still not intervene. Japan's way of thinking was different, they attacked PH because they thought we were too weak to fight back. They thought wrong.

Cutting off oil supply is not an excuse for Japan to use force.

If we took the side of Germany US went together with UK at all cost.Us exported destroyers to stop German U-boats and Atlantic charter.Japan had no choice but to attack the US pacific fleet. If successful a ratio of capital-ships might swing to Japanese advantage.Army thought to land on somewhere in North Africa and to save Rommel there. They all were kind of nerds, considering of nothing other than army and navy each.

We, initiated the war against USA.Our objective was not to acquire raw materials.Japan is an isolated little islands country.However. in the east Asia Imperial army overwhelmed USSR and China. We survived without foreign trading. When the world war happened being neutral was unthinkable. We hated communism as monarchists Then, triple alliance.US advised us it to be disadvantageous.because German lack of navy.We didn't want to betray Germany. Admiral Yamamoto originally opposing it changed the mind.

So, China wanted war, SE Asia wanted war. Japan found those countries would attack Japan together, so IJA started it first in 1930s. US helped these countries because US feared Japan too strong, challenging its leading role in Pacific area, decided to implement oil embargo against IJA. Japan was the victim at WWII.

JP never wanted the war.No one expected the win.Only 1-2yr enduarance was expected by General Yamamoto. They might have been weak in intelligence to avoid war, like our govrenment is now.FDR needed the war for Europian war against Germany. We fought deadly selfdefence with our 3million peoples dead, and encourlaged, liberated whole Asia.We were appreciated for our high discipline.

And even if US oil supply would be cut off in the 1930s, we would still not attack. You're comparing apples and oranges. The IJA was an aggressor in Asia hellbent on world domination, not the US. The US halt oil shipments as a result. The IJA looked at oil-rich Dutch East Indies to keep their war machine going. The IJA thought the invasion would led USN to intervene and seeing US was militarily weak at that time, they decided to bomb PH.

Now go back to listening to conspiracy theories you fool.

    >If someone cut off the US oil supply I would expect us to ATTACK

The Arabs did that when they placed the oil embargo on us in 1973. We didn't attack, we actually negotiated.

To say the oil embargo forced Japan to attack is a pathetic excuse. If you don't bother to read my below comments, oil is NOT the main reason. Japan thought the US was very weak at that time so they though if they hit Pearl Harbor, it would force the US to accept a peace treaty. A poorly-thought-out plan if you ask me.

Actually, oil is the lifeblood of any nation. If someone cut off the US oil supply I would expect us to ATTACK
