In AD 922, Arab courtier Ahmad Ibn Fadlan accompanies a party of Vikings to the barbaric North. Ibn Fadlan is appalled by the Vikings customs-- their wanton sexuality, their disregard for cleanliness, their cold-blooded human sacrifices. And then he learns the horrifying truth: he has been enlisted to combat a terror that slaughters the Vikings and devours their flesh.

This is such an underrated film. For all its action,the time between Banderas kneeling in the mud to offer an Islamic prayer for courage then participating in a Viking death chant is a testament to people's understanding of each other in times of crisis.It's grimly beautiful.

For a fine primer, check out ProphetofDoom(dot)net. It'll be an eye opener and a lot cheaper than living in Malmo (Sweden), Paris (France) or another European city where the Muslims have taken over significant portions and made it a seething, resentful, violent slum for their hosts.
