The sad thing is that just about at this time, poor Debbie was finding out that Harry Karl had gambled away all of her money AND his.....so she really had no "means" and could have used a gift or two......
Many of the movie stars husbands of that era stole the wives money.....Doris Day, Esther Williams, Debbie Reynolds......
