NY State Rejects Marriage Bill

In a nearly 3 - 2 majority, the New York State Sideshow.... I mean Senate... rejected the marriage equality bill that has been working its way through the legal process for the last 5 years.

New York State does provide the option for same sex couples to file for a domestic partnership, but unfortunately that has less than half of the rights that marriage offers.

This video doesn't contain a lot of facts about the topic, but it does have me swearing a lot... I think it captures the general mood though.

I think the main reason same-sex marriage is being rejected over and over is that people really think the issue boils down to public opinion. They think if they (or the majority) don't like it, then they can reject it. What they don't get with all their talk about the constitution is that it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL to allow the public to deny this basic civil right, because once you remove religion (and the constitution demands you do), that's what it is, a civil rights issue.

sometimes it makes me sad. I don't understand why we live in a world where gay people want the right to be married. Call it something else don't have a wedding. Im all for equal rights let them have them. But don't take the tradition of marraige from our culture. it's all we have left. why don't you people ever look at it from the majorities perspective?
