!!!UNBURNABLE MONEY TRICK!!! (Chemistry of Sollutions Demonstration) SCIENCE EXPERIMENT

Crazy Chris is putting his money in the line of fire literally, when he shows you how to light money on fire without burning it up!

Objective: To understand what is a solution and how solvents are able to dissolve solids, liquids and gases.

Materials Needed:
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Peice of Paper
- Lighter
- Adult (For Younger Audience Memembers)

Step 1) Soak a peice of paper in rubbing alcohol untill the entire peice of paper is coated, whipe off any excess rubbing alcohol.

Step 2) Light the peice of paper using a lighter or match and watch as the paper ignites on fire but doesnt burn up.

HOW IT WORKS:
A solutions is a mixtures of two or more substances where there molecules are evenly dispersed through out each other. Solutions are different from colloids because colloids mixtures are just unevenly trapped pockets of molecules in other molecules. Rubbing alcohol is liquid dissolved in a liquid because the alcohol molecules evenly fill in the spaces between water molecules. When you light the alcohol solution soaked peice of paper, the alcohol ignights. The water portion of the solution doesnt ignight and absorbs most of the heat energy which is why the paper doesnt burn. The alcohol buring away leaving just a damp bill proves that the alcohol was dissolved in the water. Of coarse if the heat energy vaporises the water, then it will burn up the paper which why you should use regular paper and not money. All three phases of matter can be a solvent or something that can dissolve other matter, and even be dissolved by a solvent. How-ever the most common solvent is liquid water which disloves Gases, liquids and solids very well. Solids can also dissovle the three phases of matter. Such as as gases being added to metal, liquid mercury being desolved in gold and alloied metals which are solids dissolved in other solids. Gases can only disolve other gases such as the earths atmosphere is dissolved gases in nitrogen.
