Louella isn't sloshed. She had not only a very distinctive voice nationally familiar from radio but a very distinctive pronunciation pattern. She was working hard to conceal that and also her very identifiable personalty, which was lively and tart and urgent. On radio, she always seemed in the middle of emergency. If she hadn't covered all that up, the panel would have known who she was in 10 seconds. In private life she was a devout Catholic and very motherly to younger people in Hollywood.

Tho' she might have been a bit! David Niven said one of the ways she would get her 'targets' to talk was to ply them with drink in a most 'convivial' way....tho' he also said it occasionally backfired on her, when she would keep up too much to remain sharp enough to catch the loose chat!

Hopper was more sharp and arch about such things...
