Rutgers Upsets No. 3 Louisville 28-25 on Last-Second Field Goal

Don't Stop Believing!

Nov. 10 Bloomberg (By Bob Bensch)
Believers

Rutgers had just 12 victories in coach Greg Schiano's first four seasons before winning seven last season and earning their first bowl game berth since 1978. The Scarlet Knights had lost 25 straight Big East games from 1999 to 2003.

``We have great kids that believe in what we're doing,'' Schiano said in an interview with ESPN. ``You don't come back like we did tonight unless you have believers.''

Anthony Allen ran for a touchdown and Brian Brohm threw a scoring pass to Jimmy Riley to help Louisville open a 25-7 lead midway through the second quarter.

Rice's 18-yard touchdown run pulled Rutgers within 25-14 at the half. Rice then added a 4-yard touchdown run early in the third and Ito's 46-yard field goal five minutes into the final quarter tied the game 25-25.

The Rutgers defense took the game over in the second half, forcing Louisville to punt on its first six possessions of the second half. The Scarlet Knights then sacked Brohm on the game's final play after Ito's kick.

  • I wish they would let us do this in Morgantown

  • Navy's coach, Paul Johnson, is now at Georgia Tech. However, his replacement, who is from Hawaii, is going to do a good job, too!

  • I do and navy has a good coach

  • It was announced on Friday, 12/07/07, that Greg Schiano is not going to Michigan. So, for the following reasons, I believe that Schiano will stay at Rutgers forever:

    1. Schiano is a Jersey guy, and building a solid program from scratch in his home state has to be the most special feeling.

    2. He turned down Miami, and Michigan, two storied programs, in one year.

    3. He now has a huge house on campus.

    4. Rutgers is having a stadium expansion.

    Amen, anyone?

  • I hear that Schiano is having a house built right near the stadium. Have any of you seen it? Is it big? Is it nice?

  • Man, I watched Rutgers play Navy, and there is no doubt that Rutgers is one of the most well-coached teams in the country! Anyone agree with me?

  • oh my god oh my god... who gives a shit... college football sucks anyways

  • All I can say is, THANK YOU!!

  • i gave this 5 stars just for having the greatest sng ever in it
