And this book about the history of prostitution doesn't prove it's 'normal' or 'right' but that women have had to live in a male dominated society for millenia - hardly a revaltion. Torture is also one of the oldest professions - does that make it ok?

why do men typically seek prostitutes and not women? It's not because women desire sex less, but because men desire power over women more. They desire the power that comes with their superior economic and social status that allows them to put a woman in complete submission.

I want to sell sex, shouldn't I be able to do that without people trying to punish me for that?

oh, and the banking comparison - I'll bet that most bankers live to be older than 40, on average... unlike prostitutes.

like he said, if the people that are meeting to have sex are educated and conscientious, then they will be doing it safer than those who are trafficking and selling children to do sex. We have to accept that prostitution will never go away, might as well make it safer then worse.

Payment for sex is one thing, but can you guarantee that EVERYONE is in it voluntarily AND that there will be no abuse?

heidiface3d: These things would be brought down greatly with regulation. Keeping prostitution illegal doesn't make it go away, it just makes it impossible to regulate, leading to pimps and disease. If it were legal and regulated, there would be far less abuse. The girls would have a legal avenue to pursue in the case of abuse and exploitation, without fear of themselves being arrested.

No, but people will sure as hell feel better knowing that they can now do it legally, without having to fear that no one will help them.

its just like we have cops. There are crimes everyday, and society invented the system to have protection. It does not grantee that no one will get hurt and that there will be no drugs, but at least they are there to help as much as they can and im pretty sure we are better off with police than without.

Or are you just surprised that I expected the other side to lose the debate after this? (Cause in retrospect that was probably dumb.)
