Sony Vegas Poltergeist Effect

Shot a short clip of my living room. Added another video track for the cup animation. The cup was imported media, a .png file of a picture of the cup with a transparent background. I sized the cup and animated this track with key frames.

Added another video track for the cup's shadow. I used a standard text track, with two capital letter I's with the tracking moved together until they touched and formed one fat I. I gave this track a drop shadow. Also some feathering and compositing to soften it up a bit. Then I used the chroma key effect on that track to remove the white of the actual letters on that track, resulting in only showing the drop shadow on that track. I then used key frames on that track to try to match the movement of the cup. This was the hardest step, a lot of trial and error until I was satisfied with the result.

Added one more video track, the cctv text, for a security camera look. Also added some noise and made it black and white to complete the cheap security cam look.

For the audio, I just shot a clip where I threw the cup at the camera, and used that soundtrack....matching the start of the sound to one frame past the frame that represented the cup striking the camera.
