Amazing Grace is NOT a spiritual!!!! It was written by a plantation owner

The words were actually written buy a John Newton, a reformed British slave ship captain. As for the melody, there's one theory that it was an African medley.

They put a classical/opera spin on these songs, thus making them sound terrible.

The right thing for us, the descendants of the slaves, is to teach our offspring "responsibility" - to self, family, and nation - instead of teaching "rights." You have no "rights" when you lack what it takes to have rights - like quality education. Let's teach our children respect - for oneself, family, and fellow (wo)men. We must teach them hardwork - African Americans were some of the strongest humans created. Additionally, let's teach them forgiveness - magnanimity is stronger than hatred.

Thank you! We definitely need more people teaching this: the importance of duties and responsibility, rather than the assumption of rights.

Not 'the white man', but 'the rich man'. The old dichotomy between oppresive whites and oppressed blacks needs to be realised for the fallacy it is. It is a gross over simplification and, at base, a cop-out. It isn't a racial disadvantage but an economic one, which is shared by millions of white people.
