@OneWorldOneDestiny Or maybe we should stop teaching our children that our accomplishments as a people started with slavery.
-
whatever that says
-
it sure is a negro spiritual

Just ti clarify something, Amazing Grace is not a negro spiritual, it was written by a White Guy....

Wow - thank you for this wonderful singing Juares. You have a rich, glorious voice - so special in this world. Your warmth, sensitivity and emotion are beautifully balanced in this fine medley of negro-spiritual favourites. Are you a professional singer - if so, where are you from and where are you singing? Best wishes, Christopher

@OneWorldOneDestiny preach, I say this kind of stuff all the time and the black people my age (young 20's) think I'm on some Uncle Tom stuff, forgetting my roots...

I am reading Uncle Tom's Cabin for school and this shows me just how the slaves felt. though most people wont admit it there were white slaves and alot of slaves were treated like family. some people however treated slaves poorly and it is only these stories that are told in school so it is sad that people don't see the ties that were stronger than blood between master and slaves :(

The right thing for us, the descendants of the slaves, is to teach our offspring "responsibility" - to self, family, and nation - instead of teaching "rights." You have no "rights" when you lack what it takes to have rights - like quality education. Let's teach our children respect - for oneself, family, and fellow (wo)men. We must teach them hardwork - African Americans were some of the strongest humans created. Additionally, let's teach them forgiveness - magnanimity is stronger than hatred.

The singing of the oppressed doesn't have to be the best singing in the world to be good. I doubt that many slaves sang or sing like classically trained opera stars - they sang and sing authentically, in respect of feeling and lyrics - as a solace to themselves and their fellows. And that's what's beautiful. And tragic. And shameful.
