Enoch Gregory aka 'The Dixie Drifter' was one of New York's legendary soul dee jay of the 60's and 70's on two
of the top AM soul stations, WWRL (Super 1600) and WNJR (New Jersey). He acclaimed his name from his
birthplace of Henford, N.C. Enoch's popular on the air rap went; 'I'm the Dixie Drifter, Icomes when I wants to
and I leaves when I pleases'. Gregory ended his show with, 'Walk tall and stay loose baby'.

'Soul Heaven' a tribute to 3 legends of R&B / Soul, Dinah Washington, Nat 'King' Cole and Sam Cooke, who
passed away the previous two years 1963-1965. It was compose by Teddy Vann, the man who wrote 'Love Power'
for the Sandpebbles on Calla Records in 1967 and later remade by the late Luther Vandross. 'Soul Heaven'
charted No. 8 on Billboard's R&B Singles, the week ending Oct 2, 1965.

Enoch 'Dixie Drifter' Gregory entered the gates of soul heaven on Friday, April 28, 2000.

  • This is the true NY radio. I remember this song back in 1967-135th Street-Lennox Terrace. This is truly a marvelous tribute to the Dixie Drifter.

  • this is incredible. i haven't heard this in about 30 yrs or so. this definitely bring back memories of radio station WWRL in NY. you tube has got to be the best thing that's happen to the internet.....you tube forever.
