In Spring 2011, shortly after the terrible earthquake and nuclear catastrophy in Japan, the young violinist Yukari Aotani and the Mozarteum Music University in Salzburg, Austria invited Ivry Gitlis to perform in a Charity Concert for Japan in the Mozarteum Salzburg.
During the first rehearsal in the Mozarteum the buildings fire alarm went on, the fire fighters came and everybody had to wait downstairs until the firemen gave an ok to re-enter the building. Was just a failure in the system. But Maestro Gitlis did not want to go upstairs again and so he just sat down next to the entrance door and took out his violin. We (Yukari, Me-Daniel Auner, Susanne von Gutzeit on the Viola and Florin Birsak, Cello) arranged some stands and we started to rehearse in the Aula/Atrium of the Mozarteum Salzburg. It was already in the middle of the night, most students were already home, but they really missed something.
After some time, Ivry Gitlis looked at a young Violinist who was listening, Barbara Galante, and asked her to play something for him.
It was a fantastic musical experience for all of us who had been allowed to listen to him or even play with him a concert and we hope that he will continue to share his energy and passion for music with us for a long time to go.
So Great...
