I started my pre-op/liver shrinking diet on January 1 for my surgery on January 22. I will be doing it for 3 weeks instead of the required 2 weeks in an effort to lose more weight.

The following is a sample menu from my surgeon and nutritionist that I will follow (pre-op):
Breakfast:
1 Slim Fast High Protein Shake
*Drink at least 8-12 oz of sugar free/calorie free liquids between meals

Lunch:
1 Slim Fast High Protein Shake
1 small piece of fresh fruit (apple, pear, peach, orange)
*Drink at least 8-12 oz of sugar free/calorie free liquids between meals

Snack:
6-8 oz light yogurt or light yogurt smoothie
OR ½ cup of non-fat cottage cheese
OR 1 reduced fat string cheese
*Drink at least 8-12 oz of sugar free/calorie free liquids between meals

Dinner:
Sandwich:
4 oz of lean turkey, chicken, ham or roast beef
2 slices of lite/low calorie whole grain bread (40 calories or less per slice)
Mustard, fat free mayo, lettuce, and tomato
1 cup of raw or cooked, non-starchy vegetables or a 6-8 oz can of V8 juice

  • You're getting SO CLOSE!!! :) Reading the nutritional program on the right...that seems pretty balanced and fulfilling. Does all of this seem surreal to you right now? I think it would to me. Heck, even when I was in the beginning stages it all seemed so surreal. I can't imagine how it's going to feel when I get as close as you are right now. :)

  • I know!! 14 DAYS! I am so excited that I can barely stand it. My meals are going pretty well. I have to admit that I'm starting to get a little hungry, but I'll just have to push through it. Hey, it's only 2 weeks, right!? I hope that you can get things worked out for you very soon!

  • You're on the final countdown!! I'm so happy for you. Seems like you are on the ball as to what you need to do. Information is power. Congrats on your life changing decision! Looking forward to watching your transformation!

  • Thanks Jackie! You can never stop learning right?! I can't wait...just counting downt the days now. :D

  • Yeah! Your getting closer! I'm so very excited for you. Do you have the book Weightloss surgery for dummies? I highly recommend it, it really helped me out. Good luck, let me know if you need anything!

  • Thanks Amy! :D Yes I do have that book. I loved it!! I'm going to re-read it this week since I'm getting so much closer to my date. I have about 10 wls books; some of them are specialized in Lap Band.

  • It is none of anyones buisness how people lose weight as long as they get healthier. Why dont you people with the negative comments go find a hobby or donate your free time to a nursing home or something cause your neg comments are not needed..

  • im doing it by myself, eating non fat and very lowfat. i been struggling for years. weight issues and food issues. im going to see therapist. i cant afford surgery.

  • OBESE!

  • to loose weight u need to eat right kind of food and exercise more! eat more greens and drink alot of water... fill those days with training.. plan your days around your training not the other way around! its rly easy but hard to keep ongoing!

  • loosing weight the easy way. do it it like me and cut back. weight watchers is great. i hate when folks expect congrats for getting surgery and those of us who do it the hard way get none.

  • I hope it works for you but I am shocked! Slim Fast like Dexatrim and Weight Watchers are fads and scams. They are not nutritionally balanced either. I cant belive that any reputable hospital advocates diet products. Bet they get a nice kickback for it too. Maybe your weight is beyond the Slimfast help for longterm use but think about it. Why not use it longterm if it works? I hope your not at risk. There are fatfarms and hospitals that offer cures. Talk to Carnie Wilson and her hellish battle.

  • congrats on surgery diet! Keep us posted!
