@mandapaige1 Finally I can assure you as an Argentine that no other government (democratic or tyrant) did worse for economy than military regimes. They were the ones to increase our foreign debt to outer space figures. So, if there was such crisis in 1955 (3 years after Eva´s death), the military were not the ones to garantee a fair way out. The powerful and rich men were fed up of Peron´s populistic (no for being this, less important for common people), and wanted to hold the grip again.
-
@mandapaige1 He never had to face charges for murder, although he was taken from the presidency by the military and was surrounded by powerful and raging enemies. He was alleged to have prosecuted opponents and political rivals to jail, but never killed anyone. He went against tabloids that were relentlessly critical, most of the times defending interests of the rich with no care for the naked truth. He never raised arms against the people unlike others who didn´t mind massacre a few or many.
-
@mandapaige1 He was never indicted to comit murder, so how can you say that he actually killed people? Don´t you think that he should have faced charges if he was taken that way from being president of the nation, having all those powerful and treacherous enemies? Doesn´t make sense at all. One thing you´re right about, and it was the economic situation of the country, but not after Eva´s death, 3 years later. Nevertheless, a military coup d´etát was in no way a better loophole to that crisis.
-
@mandapaige1 He also had to face the hatred of the rich and powerful who saw his fight for equality as a hazzard to their (until then) almighty will, and a tremendous war against Catholic Church authorities, who did everything in their hands to help overthrone him, with no respect for the over 50% who elected him for another period (1951-1957) The military took the power by force causing more than 1000 civilian deaths and exiled him to Spain, he didn´t fleed.

I always tear up when she sings "I'm Argentina, and always will be"
