in a long run will those shelves & racks last
with tons of books and keeps on moving like that...

n i think it can be implemented in big libraries n a lot of money to spend...

It all depends on the friction. Trains move hundreds of tonnes efficently due to low friction.

I believe when the library is open all the shelves are extended; they're only closed when the library shuts down for the night. So they're not constantly opening and closing just to get out a few books.
