iMac G3 upgraded to a LCD monitor, with a Dreamcast installed inside.

The system in completely independent, it has one power cord.

The original 'on' button for the iMac now controls the LCD computer monitor (the LED works as well: green for on, red for 'no signal')

To the right of the monitor 'on' button was 2 head phone jacks, I removed these. In one hole is the 'on' button for the Dreamcast, the other hole houses the volume control.

Have a look at my other videos, I have one showing how to change games, it looks awkward, but after doing it a couple times, it has become quite easy.

another video shows the s-video out, so if for some reason you wanted to hook it up to a TV, you can. It also has RCA stereo out, so I guess you could hook it up to a home stereo as well.

My original 'unveiling' of the system can be seen here:

  • That's pretty amazing - you have any previous experience in engineering?

  • no, I've just been modding game systems for a while now:

region mods, s-video mods, console to JAMMA mods (to play in an arcade cab), superguns (to play arcade boards on a TV), etc, etc.

  • Could you please post the modelnumber of the iMac you used?

And is this a normal 15" TFT?

  • The bottom of the iMac says:

    Family # M4984

    825-4382-A

The monitor is a normal computer monitor (15").

if you are looking to make one of these, I used the tray disk loading iMac, not the slot loading iMac, as for the monitor, just don't get a widescreen monitor.

if you are going to use a regular TFT display, then the best video quality you could hope for is s-video - the point of this mod was for the higher quality VGA.

  • damnit I'll give you $5 just to press the freaking start button :-) nice work

  • hey, I could have added some annoying background music

  • I want to do an isnes but if I put a snes, then I would probably have to mod it to get a nice video quality from it.

  • that is crazy i wish i was more luck tech geek for video games

  • why svideo? the dreamcast can do vga you know.

  • This mod is pretty cool. I'd like to mod my G3 iMac with a MacMini. But I have the problem to fit a 15 inch TFT in the case. How did you done it? Could you give me hint? Are there pics online?

    Cheers

    KC
