How to unwind a 1.5 HP 3 phase motor. This is so much fun!

1. cut off rope tie.
2. pull out wire holders.
3 tap on outer coils with rubber mallet.
4 start on one side of the coil and pull out one wire at a time or in small bunches.
5 pull out other side of coil.
6 repeat till all windings are out.
7 don't get mad... it takes time and is tedious work...
8 good luck

have fun! happy recycling!

  • I don't understand why you would want to re use wire from a electric motor. Is copper wire that expensive? surley the chances of damaging the insulated coating on the wire and causing it to short out between turns is too great.? Thats just my thoughts.

  • @MrMoonwalkers If it's cheep I'll have you buy some for me... Lol

Really tho, magnet wire is not that cheep. And I have zero funding for my projects. So reuse where I can.

I saved about 50 to 70$ by reusing this wire. When you have zero funding... Thts alot of money! Thanks for the comment. Please visit RWGresearch . com for all my work.

  • great skillzzzzz

cant wait to see oyur idea for coating the toy slinkys

  • @rave154 , thanks rave! ~Russ

  • Nice time laps, I have taken apart one transformer and thought that was time consuming. Great to see the copper being reused. Peace rawbush

  • @Rawbush oh yeah! Transformers are fun!!! I need to get over to your channel and watch some of your videos! Keep up the good work! ~Russ

  • Can I just say this...I own a small business and we take these apart all the time..

    Steps.

1 take the motor put it in a vice and tighten

2 take a dremel or any industrial cutter (saw zaw, demo saw, grinder) and cut one side

3 take a flat pri-bar and pull the other side out..

    its that simple

  • What ??? HAA dude just cut all of them on on side and take a lever to peull them out from the other side

  • does increasing the winding turns makes it fast? I have a dc power window motor and I wanted to make it faster..

  • Good stuff my friend. When I get alot of old electric motors I simply put them in a fire. It loosens everything and is easy to get out the copper. Not too good on the environment though.

  • CHECK OUT THE DEGAUSING COIL IN A TELEVISION. IT IS THE COIL THAT GOES AROUND THE FRONT OF THE PICTURE TUBE. IT GOES AROUND THE SQUARE END OF THE TUBE. IT HAS NO RESINS BINDING THEM TOGETHER. JUST ELECTRICAL TAPE TO UNWIND. AND IT IS READY TO USE. SOME ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM WIRE , BUT MOST ARE COPPER WIRE.

    ENJOY.

  • why bother getting it so neatly coiled up? Why not use a grinder and cut the bundles off the top/

  • I have used copper wire from microwave transformers I have been keeping the primary for a wind turbine project and the coatting is a pain and I have found when I unravel the copper the outside is the worst but onces you get to the middle its pretty clean but you can recoat the wire if you want to be safe from shorts the motor you have would have been great for a wind turbine project thanks for the video.

  • @MrMoonwalkers Lol people do this for a living and people that are good at it get rich real fast!

  • @MrMoonwalkers yes wire is expensive.

  • plasma cutter , if you going to waste something that's worth more as a motor than scrap. these units are easy to rebuild.
