Ford of Britain has handed over the first of an initial order for 50 of the most powerful Transit ambulances ever built. Scottish Ambulance, the largest ambulance service in Europe, with a 1,450-vehicle fleet, chose the Transit with 200PS TDCi engine after exhaustive testing against Mercedes and VW ambulances. It took delivery of the first vehicle at the UK's annual police car show

  • How many of the 50 vehicles did they get seeing how the vehicle body builder went bust on 15th January 2010

  • @simontemplers I did some digging to come up with an answer for you:

The response was that the 50 vehicles have either been delivered or are in the process of being delivered.

So no short-fall on order completion.

  • Woop goo Scotland :)))

  • and now they provide us with shitty peugeot van conversions as it saves money with the attitude of "who cares what the crews think" we are saving money by providing sub standard vehicles that are not fit for purpose

  • Cool Transit! I thought they already have some Ford Transits for the Scottish Ambulance?

  • funny how the production manager is named "Michael Jackson"

  • i think falck is the largest ambulance provider in europe

  • These vehicles are amazing! They are very fast, with excellent acceleration!

  • @verdefull If they were used here, the NHS would be raped by the fuel costs. and they're a little too big to drive here.

  • My dad drove a LWB 3.5t transit for CityLink, and him (aswell as the other delivery drivers) came up that the best van would have the engine from the Sprinter, handling from either transit or Transporter and seats/cab from Transit. The seats in the Fords are so comfy!

  • @verdefull Is that why the Econoline has been replaced (or will be) by the Transit Connect?

  • nice but ford ecoline is still better...that nyc use..
